2023 Webinar: Native Plant Communities for (Midwest) Urban Gardens

Tue, September 19, 2023 @ 6:00 pm EDT - 7:00 pm EDT

September 19, 2023 — NATIVE PLANT COMMUNITIES FOR (MIDWEST) URBAN GARDENS

Native plants can help us turn our gardens into beautiful, ecologically functioning plant communities; for Midwestern city gardeners, this means looking to the plants of our great prairies, woodlands, and savannas.

These natural plant communities are really big, but our gardens are small. How do you create native plant communities that will function on an urban scale? Join Angela Bowman for an introduction to the topic, where we’ll discuss

                  • the benefits of city gardening with native plants
                  • a list of prairie and woodland plants that tend to grow well in urban sites
                  • how to design a garden that emulates native plant communities on a small scale

Not from the Midwest? That’s FINE!  Join us regardless of your home location! While we will focus on Midwestern plants, many of the plants and design lessons will apply to city gardeners of other regions as well.

Angela Bowman generates green spaces that not only look beautiful but also provide sanctuary and bring us closer to nature. By designing and planting with ecological processes in mind, we can unleash the power of gardens to restore lost animal habitat, manage stormwater, regenerate damaged soil, and improve climate resilience. Bowman Gardens offers design, installation, project management, and stewardship services as well as garden coaching and consulting.  Angela Bowman hails from Chicago.

Continuing Education Credits are being sought for this program.
