Seeking a Restoration Designer/Landscape Designer

BlueFlax Design, LLC, a rapidly growing design/build firm located in Harwich, Massachusetts (on Cape Cod) specializing in a blend of landscape and ecological restoration design and implementation, seeks a designer/design assistant to support the owner/lead designer with projects ranging from traditional residential landscape design to the development of wetland mitigation/restoration plans and land management plans.

Responsibilities of the position include collaborating with the owner/lead designer to develop restoration and landscape designs, drafting land management plans and planting plans, and writing monitoring reports for local Conservation Commissions. Fieldwork includes site visits for vegetation inventory and site analysis, and collaboration with our field crew and environmental technicians to layout planting plans in the field.

Self-motivated candidates with excellent attention to detail, strong writing/communication skills, and landscape design/drafting skills, excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office Excel and Word/Adobe Photoshop/InDesign/Illustrator , CAD Software a must, Google Sketchup a plus), and plant knowledge (plant identification including some knowledge of invasive species plant I.D.) are encouraged to apply. Familiarity with the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act is a plus.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Creating and maintaining Excel spreadsheets to track plant orders, billable hours, and materials use
  • Organizing plant orders
  • Creating graphic materials (perspective drawings, photo sketches, section/elevation drawings etc)
  • Preparing for and presenting projects at Conservation Commission Hearings
