Bio:

Julie is trained as a landscape architect, and is a certified arborist, co-owner/operator of Redbud Native Plant Nursery and a founding principal of TEND Landscape Inc. Prior to forming TEND, Julie’s work focused on landscape management, developing her expertise over 14 years as project manager of high-profile public spaces in Philadelphia with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society.

Julie has worked closely with city agencies, corporations, volunteers, and other nonprofit entities to advise on the daily operations of the landscapes under their purview. With TEND, she continues working primarily in the public realm, focusing on the bridge between design and landscape management. As founder and co-chair of the Landscape Management Forum, she has forged a partnership with landscape managers from arboreta, public gardens and campus landscapes throughout the Philadelphia region. Since 2013, Julie has been an adjunct instructor at Temple University in the Department Landscape Architecture and Horticulture. Beginning in 2019, she is serving on the Board of Trustees for the Ecological Landscape Alliance.

Why ELA?

“It seems to me that ELA is like a magnet attracting folks who value landscape and the people who work with it. I really appreciate that ELA makes space for exchange of ideas and sharing of knowledge in support of ecological practices.  For me, it’s been a great opportunity to learn (formally and informally) from the other members.”
