Eco-tour: Native Trees and Shrubs for Beauty and Birds

May 29 @ 4:30 pm EDT - 6:30 pm EDT

The inclusion of native plant material in the landscape helps increase biodiversity and sustainability. Shrubs and trees play a major role in the symbiotic relationships amongst all life on our properties while simultaneously enhancing beauty and interest. Take a walk through this professionally landscaped property to learn and see firsthand how native plant and native cultivars enhance the landscape, add different textures and colors, and moreover play a vital role in the overall health of the plant community.

Pines, serviceberries, birch, and sumac are some of the many habitat-providing plants featured in the tour.

Tour Guide: Marie Chieppo
Principal, EcoPlantPlans, LLC. Needham, MA
After obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree from Simmons University and a Master of Public Health degree from Boston University, Marie worked for five years as the researcher for the Editor-in-Chief of The New England Journal of Medicine. A trip to Italy changed everything and gardening became her true passion. 2019 marks her 20th year in business as a designer, hands-on gardener, and horticulturalist. Her science background is an asset to her ecologically-based work developing gardens with healthy ecosystems that will be much more viable as we face the effects of climate changes. Marie strives to teach others that through our gardens and landscapes we can help offset some of the effects of changing climate. And that when designed correctly, we can still have healthy beautiful gardens.
