Eco-tour: Beneficial Bugs at Nasami Farm

June 10 @ 10:00 am EDT - 12:00 pm EDT

$26 - $32

Tour the greenhouses at Nasami Farm; see how common pests are successfully managed with biological controls in lieu of pesticides.

Biocontrols are intentionally released insects, mites, nematodes and microorganisms. Scout for some of these beneficial bugs and their prey. Learn about the grisly end of an aphid when met by a predatory wasp. Bring a hand lens and sun protection.

Nasami Farm is the propagation nursery for the New England Wild Flower Society.

Kate Stafford is Nursery Operations Manager and Propagator at Nasami Farm. Working at New England Wild Flower Society’s Nasami Farm in Whately, MA, Kate Stafford focuses on growing the region’s native plants from wild-harvested, sustainably collected seed. Kate also runs the nursery volunteer program, teaches courses, and writes articles. She has a profound interest in plant communities and the life they support. She received a BS in Biology from the University of Massachusetts.
