New ELA Board Members 2018

Dan Jaffe is a horticulturist, photographer and author. Dan earned a degree in botany from the University of Maine, Orono, an advanced certificate in Native Plant Horticulture and Design from New England Wild Flower Society, and has years of nursery management and plant sales experience. He is the Propagator and Stock Bed Grower for New England Wild Flower Society and the staff photographer. His book Native Plants for New England Gardens was released spring of 2018.

In his free time, Dan is building his own small-scale homestead, growing and foraging numerous edible species, preserving and cooking whenever possible, and raising small animals.

Laurie Johnson is the owner of Lauri Johnson Landscape Design, based in Reading, MA. She has been designing, installing, and maintaining gardens professionally for over 20 years in the Northshore and Metro West regions around Boston. She strives to apply ecological principles to her work, and feels strongly in lifelong learning and networking to keep up with current research and best practices. Prior to starting her current business, she worked for the MA Dept. of Environmental Protection for many years. Lauri received a B.S. Degree in Biology, and furthered her formal studies at the Landscape Institute affiliated with Arnold Arboretum. She has been a member of Ecological Landscape Alliance for several years, and is also a member of NEWFS (New England Wildflower Society), APLD (Association of Professional Landscape Designers), MNLA (MA Nursery and Landscape Association), Grow Native, and many other horticultural related groups. Lauri has contributed to her community over the years, by volunteering her time to create various public garden spaces on town properties, lecturing, and promoting low maintenance ecologically-based garden design and care. In her spare time, Lauri enjoys visiting gardens, traveling, hiking, and spending time at the ocean.
